The administrators of the Telegram channels "Project Scanner" and "Riddle" were arrested in August. According to the prosecutor's office, they posted defamatory publications and extorted money from public figures, including Tina Kandelaki's husband Vasily Brovko. The prosecutor has requested 8 years imprisonment for each of the three administrators accused of extortion, as well as a fine of 1 million rubles and 2 years of restricted freedom. Vladislav Malushenko, Yevgeny Moskvin, and Alexey Slobodenyuk are charged under Article 163 of the Criminal Code (extortion), which carries a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison. The verdict is scheduled to be announced on May 26.
Three administrators of the Telegram channels "Project Scanner" and "Riddle" were arrested by court in August last year on charges of large-scale fraud. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the defendants formed an organized group in 2020 to extort money from public figures. In particular, they published derogatory information about the honor of Vasily Brovko, the director for special assignments at the state corporation Rostec, and his wife Kandelaki. As reported by TASS, after the publication of the materials, Brovko's assistant contacted the administrators of the channels requesting the removal of the defamatory publications. In response, the defendants demanded a payment of 280,000 rubles, otherwise, threats were made to continue publishing derogatory material. Brovko initially agreed to pay the amount but the defamatory publications continued even after that. The victim then filed a complaint with law enforcement agencies, and a criminal case was initiated.
